Welcome to Vacuum Wars and our review of the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra Robot Vacuum. This latest flagship product from Robo Rock is considered to be the most advanced robot vacuum ever released. We’ve put it through a series of tests over the past few weeks, so in this video, we’ll go over all the pros and cons.
Starting with the basics, the Roborock S8 comes with a standard charger, while the S8 Plus version includes an auto-empty dustbin, and the Pro Ultra version features the Ultra Dock, which is an auto-empty dustbin and an auto-mopping dock. In terms of performance, this robot vacuum excelled in our various pickup tests on both hard floors and carpets, easily picking up all types and sizes of debris. Its mopping capabilities were equally impressive, thanks to the new VibraRize 2.0 system, which enhances scrubbing intensity by vibrating the mop pad at two points instead of one. Plus, it’s worth noting that the S8 Pro Ultra is one of the few robot vacuums on the market that automatically raises its mop pad when it detects carpet, allowing it to vacuum and mop homes with a mix of different floor types in just one run. Overall, with its advanced features and top-notch performance, the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra proves to be a game-changer in the industry.
Roborock S8 Pro Ultra
Welcome to Vacuum Wars and our review of the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra Robot Vacuum! This is the latest flagship product from Roborock and it is considered the most advanced robot vacuum ever released. We have put it through a series of tests over the past couple of weeks, and in this article, we will go over all the pros and cons of this impressive machine.
The Basics
The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is available in two versions: the standard S8 and the S8 Plus. The S8 Plus version comes with an auto-empty dust bin, while the Pro Ultra version includes the Ultra Dock, which is an auto-empty dustbin and an auto-mopping dock. The S8 is offered in two color options: black and white.
Debris Pickup Tests
In our various pickup tests, the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra excelled at picking up debris on both hard floors and carpets. We were impressed by its sweeping ability, as it easily picked up various types and sizes of debris without any issues. It proved to be a reliable and efficient cleaner for different surface types.
Mopping Features and Tests
The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra also impressed us with its mopping capabilities. With the introduction of the new Vibrized 2.0 system, the mop pad now vibrates at two points instead of one, enhancing the scrubbing intensity. This improvement was evident in both our dried-on mopping tests and wet mopping tests, where it delivered some of the best results we’ve seen so far.
One standout feature of the S8 Pro Ultra is its ability to automatically raise the mop pad when it senses carpet. This allows it to vacuum and mop homes with a mix of hard floors and carpet in just one run, which is a game-changer in the industry. We tested its mop raising capability on both high pile and low pile carpets, and it performed flawlessly in keeping carpets and rugs dry.
Ultra Dock
The Ultra Dock included with the S8 Pro Ultra is an auto-empty dock that empties the contents of its dustbin automatically. It also automatically washes the mop pad and refills and empties its mop tank, making it a pinnacle of automated floor care systems. One notable addition to the Ultra Dock is the auto-mop pad drying system, which drives the mop pad over the course of hours, making it much more sanitary.
Navigation and Obstacle Avoidance
Roborock is known for its exceptional navigation and obstacle avoidance sensors, and the S8 Pro Ultra is no exception. In our navigation tests, it proved to be the most efficient robot vacuum in terms of both coverage and mapping speed. It created a map of the floor plan in just four minutes, faster than any previous robot we’ve tested.
Although the S8 Pro Ultra doesn’t have a camera for obstacle avoidance, it relies on structured light and infrared images to see and avoid obstacles. In our tests, it scored a 9 out of 12 in obstacle avoidance performance, which is a little better than its predecessor, the S7 MaxV. While obstacle avoidance sensors are not yet perfect, they are a valuable feature that adds convenience and efficiency to the cleaning process.
App and Map Features
The app and map features of the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra are extensive and user-friendly. There are options for setting no-go lines, room select, zone cleaning, and a wide range of scheduling features for different rooms with varying power and mop settings. It offers 3D maps and multi-floor maps, allowing for customization and control over the cleaning process. Additionally, you can adjust the frequency of the mop pad cleaning or auto-empty behavior, making it a master class in features and customization.
Dual Brushrolls
One highly anticipated feature of the S8 Pro Ultra is its dual brush roll design. This design, which is no longer patented by iRobot, aims to improve carpet deep cleaning and reduce hair tangles. However, in our deep clean tests where we embed sand into medium pile carpet, the results were above average but not spectacular. It performed slightly worse than the S7 MaxV in this aspect. It is possible that this could be attributed to lower power or other factors, but it is still a capable performer in most scenarios.
Carpet Deep Cleaning
In addition to the dual brushrolls, we tested the carpet deep cleaning performance of the S8 Pro Ultra. While its other features and general performance were impressive, the carpet deep cleaning scores were mildly disappointing. It scored slightly lower than previous Roborock models, possibly due to lower power or operator error. However, it is important to note that its overall performance and features outweigh this slight drawback.
Power
We tested the suction power and airflow of the S8 Pro Ultra and found it to be somewhat lower than previous Roborock models. This could explain the slightly lower performance in carpet deep cleaning. However, it still provides sufficient power for most cleaning tasks and has been reliable in our tests.
Battery Life
The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra boasts an impressive battery specification, utilizing a large 5200 milliamp-hour battery. It is rated at 180 minutes per charge on low power, and in our tests, it showed a range of just over 1200 feet per charge. This is a significant amount of cleaning coverage and ensures that the S8 Pro Ultra can handle even larger homes without needing to recharge frequently.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is a feature-rich robot vacuum that offers exceptional sweeping and mopping capabilities. Its various features, such as the dual brushrolls and the innovative Ultra Dock, make it a top contender in the robot vacuum market. While its carpet deep cleaning scores may not be the best, the S8 Pro Ultra makes up for it with its overall performance, advanced navigation, and extensive app and map features.
If you’re looking for a robot vacuum that combines efficient cleaning with advanced technology, the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is a solid choice. Its ability to vacuum and mop in one run, along with its intelligent navigation capabilities, sets it apart from other robot vacuums on the market. Whether you have hard floors, carpets, or a mix of both, the S8 Pro Ultra can handle the job with ease.
